A materials engineer predicts and controls material properties through an understanding of atomic, molecular, crystalline and microscopic structures of engineering materials. Materials engineers work in areas as diverse as automobile, aerospace, biomedical, or microelectronics manufacturing. Opportunities are available through these industries in the area of research, quality control, product development, design, synthesis and processing operations. As an essential member of an engineering team, the materials engineer is responsible for synthesis and processing of advanced materials.
At NJIT, you have the option to choose from two options within the M.S. Materials Science and Engineering:
Both options will provide you with an interdisciplinary education and hands-on research opportunities necessary to excel in the theoretical, experimental and analytical foundations of materials science, and in the engineering use, modification and application to the structures and products of the technological age.
